For more than 30 years, Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) takes place every March – a prestigious international competition, parallel sections with their finger on the pulse, up-and-coming talents, more than 30.000 enthusiastic spectators and in a welcoming setting! Since 2012 is Thierry Jobin artistic director of the festival.
The canton of Fribourg is somewhat a world turned upside down… cold, limestone summits are found in the south and mild, even Mediterranean-like lakesides in the north. On its small territory, two languages coexist and three very distinct holiday regions overlap.
During the Fribourg International Film Festival the public and cinema professionals gather in eight first-rate movie theatres located within a radius of 200 meters in the city centre to partake in the unique atmosphere of Fribourg.
This year, FIFF received more than 1000 long and short films (fiction, documentary and animation), coming from more than 60 different countries. During the festival week, the International Jury attributes the REGARD D’OR GRAND PRIZE as well as many other prizes worth 75'000 CHF. For the first time, the FIFF will also feature an international short film competition to encourage the great film-makers of tomorrow and showcase one of the festival's historic categories.
